Contest Rules & Guidelines

  • 60% Handmade: At least 60% of your cosplay must be constructed or altered by you. If you're modeling a costume made by someone else, they must give consent and be present with you to be eligible for awards.
  • One Entry Per Person: No separate entries from the same individual are allowed.
  • Weapons Policy: All weapons must be plastic or peace-bound and follow Kisuucon's weapon policies.
  • Purchased or Commissioned Costumes: These are not eligible for awards but may be entered in the non-competitive category to still walk the stage and perform.
  • Skill Level Adjustments: Judges may move you to a higher division if your skill level exceeds the category you entered.
  • Respect: Please be respectful to fellow participants and judges.
  • Stage Assistance: Entrants must be able to enter and exit the stage on their own or with help from a handler or adult. For those with disabilities, please contact us in advance for any assistance needed, or ask for help during pre-judging.
  • Previous Winners: Costumes that have previously won an award must declare so upon registration. In order to compete, 20% of the costume must be altered, and it must be entered into a higher skill division if applicable.
  • Group Entries: Groups of up to 8 people are allowed.

Stage Rules

  • Non-Firing Weapons: Toy weapons are allowed on stage without peace-bonding, but no live weapons are permitted.
  • No Harmful Materials: No water, flames, fireworks, confetti, or other substances that can be launched or dropped are allowed.
  • Stage Fighting & Acrobatics: All stage fighting must be performed at ¾ speed with quarter strength. Acrobatics must keep one foot on the ground at all times. No climbing or leaping off the stage is permitted.

Judging Criteria

  1. Craftsmanship: Cosplays must be at least 60% handmade by the entrant(s) and should demonstrate skill with various materials such as foam, fabric, and electronics.
  2. Presentation: Entrants will have 1 minute to present their cosplay on stage, with groups of 3+ people receiving up to 5 minutes for their presentation. Stay in character and make it theatrical!
  3. Accuracy: How well does your cosplay reflect the source material, in both craftsmanship and presentation?

Skill Level Divisions

We offer a range of divisions to ensure all cosplayers can participate at their comfort level:

  • Youth: For participants under 13 years old, who are new to costuming or have never competed before.

  • Novice: 0 awards won or new to cosplay competitions.
  • Journeyman: 1-2 awards won, moderate experience.
  • Masters: 3+ awards won, professional or advanced cosplayers.

  • Open/Non-Competition: For anyone wanting to show off their cosplay without competing or those with purchased/commissioned costumes.
